The Motor Insurers Bureau was established by agreement between the Government and the Insurance Industry to enable people injured by uninsured or untraced drivers (hit & run) to be compensated. The MIB receive funding from payments made to them collectively from insurance companies, the MIB then pay this money to the injured victims of uninsured / untraced drivers.
There are different pay outs for uninsured and untraced. Victims of uninsured drivers who are identified are entitled to receive payments for personal injury and personal losses and / or damage to property. Victims of untraced drivers are however, only entitled to claim compensation for their injuries only.
The Motor Insurers Bureau operates within the jurisdiction of all countries of the United Kingdom & Channel Islands.
